Throughout our long history, S&B Foods has tied global food culture to the traditional spice and condiment culture of Japan, enhancing Japan’s own rich culinary traditions in the process. We sell more wasabi, spices and condiments than any other company in Japan, both in terms of market share and individual product categories. Our curry powder — the first in Japan — paved the way for the country’s unique curry culture. Today curry is one of the most popular foods in the country, enjoyed on average once a week in Japan.
S&B is now broadening its global reach, popularizing products like wasabi, Japanese spices and curry worldwide through our diverse overseas business activities. We are also expanding our international procurement channels to be assured of the finest ingredients for our spice and herb products, and partner with premier global brands to bring foods from other countries to tables in Japan.
S&B’s tube wasabi, invented in 1970, was the world’s first tube-based condiment. This groundbreaking product was eventually exported outside Japan in 1972, and is currently gaining popularity around the world. S&B is now introducing other unique Japanese spices like nanami chili pepper and yuzu to the global market as well.
We work closely with other global brands to provide domestic consumers with tastes and fragrances from around the world. Our global partners include world-renowned French companies Fauchon (gourmet foods) and Maille (premium mustard and vinegar) as well as Lee Kum Kee (premium Chinese condiments). Fine Fauchon herbs and spices, available only in Japan, are sold exclusively through S&B Foods. We also offer their black teas, herb teas and salad dressings. In addition, we import famed Maille mustard and vinegar products.
To ensure a stable supply of safe, high-quality wasabi, S&B established a wasabi farm in Vietnam. The farm assures quality and safety through an integrated system covering every stage of production, from seeding to manufacture of the finished product. The project has also been a source of jobs for the area.
Our global information network ensures a stable supply of high-quality spices, helps expand our supply base, and allows us to employ rigorous safety management.
